Growing up, I was teased and picked on for being so skinny…If I missed a meal, I was down a few pounds, and I grew up extremely self-conscious, something that I still battle with to this day. Around the age of 20, I discovered the fun of weightlifting - but it was more of a hobby at the time. In the winter of 2013, I signed up to do a Spartan Beast, without ever having done any event of any kind- not even a fun run or a 5K- NOTHING…I had no idea what I was in for. It was 14 miles of bitter cold, 180 penalty burpees, and the best thing I have ever done. I finished 32 for females and took 6.5 hours to complete. I was absolutely hooked. Since then, I have done countless events- many with some amazing adaptive athletes that do not know the word “quit.” Taking the leap into Obstacle Course Racing has taught me so much- not just about myself and breaking my own barriers, but it also taught me the importance of functional fitness and not limiting myself to weights alone. Training and staying fit is not a one-and-done type of thing- it is a lifestyle. My lifestyle. I am hoping to transition myself into Bikini Physique competitions, and love the challenge of pushing past the limits I sometimes place on myself. I am proof that it is NEVER too late to start…you just have to take the first step.
